Thing #5

Flickr - Thing #5
Well I wanted to upload an image from The Hunger Games and found a great photo someone created that showed an actress portraying Katniss with a torch in her hand. I was never able to upload this photo. I'm not sure if it was protected or something like that. Anyway, I liked this one second best. It shows the mockingjay and has a cool quote from the book.
This book is unbelievably popular at my school. The kids are just enthralled with this series. They can't wait till August 24 for the newest book Mockingjay to be published!
My son, who is 17 and only reads if forced to, was given The Hunger Games as a gift and finally started reading it this past weekend. He has not put it down. He even gave up watching The Office reruns for the 200th time in order to read!
I see in my TLA conference program that Suzanne Collins will be in San Antonio. I'm determined to get some autographed copies to use as rewards at our end of the year school awards program. Wouldn't the kids go crazy???? I'm going to be waiting for a long time in a huge line and there are some authors I would not do this for. For this book, I'll do it!

Thing #3

I had done the 23 Things in the Summer 2009 with other librarians in my district. I really enjoyed playing around with the avatar and tried to make mine look like how I think I should look every day at my job - neat and professional. Most days I don't look this pulled together but I really admire people that can pull that off! Anyway, my avatar is an ideal I strive for. Loved creating it - not so easy to export it.

Setting up the blog is really easy....very intuitive and fun to think I have my own place on the internet!

Thing #2

It has been about 9 months since I last watched the video about lifelong learning I have changed my mind about what is the easiest habit for me. I have evolved my thinking toward learning new things (technology) and instead of just wanting to throw in the towel and give up at the first sign of trouble and calling my son or husband for help, I have decided that I'm only going to get better and more comfortable with technology if I accept responsibility for my own learning. What a revelation! For me it is a matter of using a new skill on the computer often so that it becomes second nature....and doing the 23 Things definitely gives great hands on experience with trying and using new technologies.

The hardest of the habits is to have confidence....I'm always second guessing myself and still get a little intimidated in new situations and feel like others have more value to add than I do. I guess I'll spend a lifetime working on this one.
